The Roatan Project
In 2011, my husband Steve and I travelled to Roatan, Honduras while on a cruise. Before we left home, we discovered the Majken Broby Children’s Home, and made plans to visit while we were on the island. We arrived at the home in the morning, and did not want to leave! We definitely left a piece of our hearts there with those children.
Since then, we have been back to the orphanage two more times, and have stayed in touch while here in Canada. It has long been on our hearts to help in some way, and Social Art has given us the strategy to do so!
We are often asked, “What do you do with all of the paintings the instructors have painted?” Well here is the answer!! We are selling them, with ALL of the proceeds going towards The Roatan Project.
Funds will go towards basic needs of the children’s home, such as food, clothing and school uniforms, tuitions, and books, as well as general repairs and upkeep of the home. Our long term plan, is to complete the construction of a building next to the orphanage and turn it into a trade school to teach practical skills needed to secure jobs.
